I will present data from the Aguilaniu group questioning the links between soma and germ line in C.elegans. During adulthood, the major energy stores should be mobilized rapidly to sustain one of the most energy demanding process: reproduction. In other words, reproduction is favored by the energy production systems over self-maintenance. This has been theorized long ago and is expected from an evolutionary point of view. Although the links between fat metabolism, reproduction, nutrition and longevity are many, no work is clearly addressing how these connections are regulated. Our data points to a single lipase which activity directly links lifespan extension and TAG consumption under dietary restriction.
